Free, and it stays free
Everything free, on one page
Large print, plain English, and every fact names the body that published it and the date it was checked. Download them, print them, copy them, leave them on a table where somebody can take one. That is what they are for.
No email address, no account, nothing to unsubscribe from. If you run a counseling office, a church, a library or a support group, print as many copies as you want.
Admitted, or Observation?
A person can spend four nights in a hospital bed and still not count as "admitted" - and that one word decides whether Medicare pays for the nursing home afterwards. Most families find out weeks later, from a bill. This covers the two statuses, what each one costs, the three notices the hospital owes you, the appeal that came out of Alexander v. Azar, and the review-organization phone number for every state.
Stop Retyping the AI
You asked the AI for a clean document and what landed in Word is full of stars and hash marks. It was never the model's fault - you never told it where the text was going. This guide shows how to get clean, formatted text out of a chat window and into a document without the manual cleanup. One setting in Google Docs fixes most of it.
The Scam Sheet
How each one works, what gives it away, and what to do if it has already happened. Written for the people being targeted, not for security professionals. Every issue so far is free to read.
The rest of the shelf
The elder-care guides in The Gray Age are priced low on purpose and stay that way - people reading them are usually already paying for care. Our first book, AI Ain't Hard, is $12.99. None of that is required to use anything on this page.
Something missing, or a fact that has changed? Write to hello@fivebrainsdigital.com. Every guide carries the date it was last checked, and corrections go into the next version.
Questions people ask
Are these guides really free?
Yes. The guides need no email address and no account, and there is nothing to unsubscribe from. Download them and print them. Admitted, or Observation? can also be read online. The Scam Sheet is different: it is a free newsletter, so getting it by email means signing up with your email address.
Can I print copies for my church, library or support group?
Yes. Print as many as you want and leave them where people can take one. That is what they are for. Please hand them out free and do not change them. Each guide has its check date on the front - before you print a new batch, download the current copy, because figures like Medicare premiums and deductibles are updated every year, starting in January.
Are the guides easy to read?
They are written in plain English. In the PDF of Admitted, or Observation?, the main text is set in 16-point type. The boxed notes and the source list are smaller.
How do I know the facts are current?
Each guide lists its sources, who published them, and the date we checked them. Rules and prices can change after that date, so check the source before you rely on a number that matters. If you find something that has changed, write to hello@fivebrainsdigital.com so we can check it and fix the guide.
What is the Scam Sheet?
A free newsletter about the scams going around right now - how each one works, what gives it away, and what to do if it has already happened. It is written for the people being targeted, not for security experts. Every issue so far is free to read. To get it by email, you sign up with your email address.
